Summer 2009 Organizing Tips

There is no better way to get organized than to have fun doing it! I have hosted a couple of clothing swaps with a few girlfriends and it's such a wonderful way to get your friends together, enjoy some good music and munchies, and it forced us all to PURGE our closets!

With the economy today and everyone being more cautious about how we spend our money, a clothing swap is a fantastic way to add a few pieces to your wardrobe that are “new to you”! Maybe your friend has always had that colourful summer dress you love and she's done with it. Perhaps your friend who recently gave birth has a few pairs of jeans that she will no longer be wearing! Recycling clothes among friends is the new way to “shop”.

All of the leftover clothes are donated to a charity of our choice. This time around, clothing was donated to the Canadian Diabetes Association where one of my girlfriends works.

Here are some POSH tips to host your own Clothing Swap…

Choose a day where your friends will likely have some free time, a Sunday afternoon works nicely.
Give your friends at least 2 weeks notice before the date of the swap…ample time to sort through their closets!
Include in your invitation the items to be swapped. You may include: clothing, shoes, accessories such as purses, belts and scarves, baby clothes, etc.
Set up a change room area complete with full length mirror.
Put together a fun playlist for the afternoon to keep the mood upbeat!
Set up an area for snacks (wine & cheese is always a favourite!) and refreshments where the girls can sit and lounge while contemplating their choices.

I hope you've been inspired to start a new tradition with friends as I have! As schedules get busier and priorities change, I always look forward to some quality time with the ladies and I think we all enjoy putting some time aside for an event that will benefit us all, as well as other less fortunate women. Not to mention how tidy all of our closets look after a good seasonal purge!!!

A seasonal clothing swap with the ladies is always a win-win situation!
